Shamanka Rock

A cloud formation rises above the frozen Baikal ice at Shamanka rock on Olkhon island. The rock is a sacred place from the beginning of time. Legend tells that the first (and greatest) shaman to descend to earth chose this spot to become his home. By volume, Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater lake in the world. It contains roughly 20% of the unfrozen freshwater on earth. It's also the deepest lake in the world with its bottom point at 1642 meters. Its surface area covers 31,722 km2, it contains more water than the Great Lakes in North America, combined. In wintertime, the surface freezes, and locals use the ice as transport routes.
