Pygmy seahorse (Hippocampus bargibanti) with coral polyps

Pygmy seahorses are very tiny and are very well camouflaged on the branches of the gorgonian fans they live on. It is extremely difficult to spot them as their size is around a centimeter. This individual was photographed on a night dive with a torch behind the fan in order to light the polyps. When the coral is feeding (the polyps are out and filtering) it is nearly impossible to spot the tiny seahorse. Pymy seahorses were first described in the last 10 years. Raja Ampat, Indonesia.
